淡水 (TAMSUI)
TWILIGHT

ARTIST
Nine Yamamoto-Masson
FERAL ECOLOGIES Cyperus malaccenis Lam., Reed, Formosan Mountain Dogs, shuei-bi-zhai (Kandelia obovata)
LOCATION Tamsui, New Taipei City, Taiwan
CONCEPT Taken along the Tamsui River in Taipei, 淡水 Twilight uncovers the edges and crevices of a very modern metropolis, where nonhuman life proliferates and evolves despite the disciplinary efforts of the concrete infrastructure. At the bounds of a protected mangrove nature reserve, the riverbank varies between appearing idyllic and neglected. Living in a liminal space between protected nature reserve, abandoned infrastructure, and high-speed train tracks and expressways, Yamamoto-Masson maps the riverbanks in her personal memory. Here, she enters into increasing familiarity with local stray dogs, and finds traces of Dutch, Spanish and Japanese colonialism in their breeds — and in the rest of this peri-urban ecosystem.
