THE HUNT

ARTIST Paulina Fi Garduño
FERAL ECOLOGIES
Foxes, Weeds, Dogs, Flowers
LOCATION London, UK

CONCEPT Garduño follows foxes around Deptford, London, moving from one fox to another, until she becomes lost among houses and streets that she recognises by day, but are the foxes’ territory by night. Jumping onto bins, disappearing behind cars, and sneaking into backyards, the foxes traverse their own routes across a terrain where human conventions like property ownership do not apply. The unfocused, poorly lit images taken with a point-and-shoot camera eschew traditional portraits of wildlife in rural landscapes, or of domesticated pets in urban settings — mirroring the urban foxes’ disruption of a built environment in which we believe humans to be the sole protagonists.
